SUNTREE GUEST COTTAGES :
a Natural Getaway
the Bella Coola River.
We moved to the Bella Coola Valley in 2001 where we found
a little piece of heaven and we want to share it with the world.
We are avid nature lovers and are constantly excited about
the natural activities that surround us in our new home. We
watch mountain goats, grizzly and black bears, deer, otters,
seals and especially eagles, right from the living room window.
A river runs through it:
While nobody can actually own river riparian, the property boundary
of Suntree Cottages extends across the Bella Coola River. For that and
other reasons, we have been involved with a group dedicated to
protecting and enhancing the health of the river system. As our
land is rich with natural groundwater, we soon hope to enhance fisheries
habitat within our property by creating
riffle/glide/pool structured stream.
In its current state, the property has high fish habitat potential for coho
spawning and rearing (already evident in numbers on the lowest reach).
We have the power:
One unique thing about Suntree Cottages is that we generate our own hydro-electricity. Suntree has a Pelton Wheel
turbine capable of producing as much as 18 Kilowatts of electricity during normal operating periods using the natural
resource of a mountain stream. Learning to manage electricity has helped make living here a rewarding experience.
And yes, informational tours of the facility are offered at no charge.
